Originally, the Great Mountain Cemetery in Sarkandaugava belonged to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Congregation.

This cemetery was founded in 1900 and was located next to the Alexander Hospital Cemetery, located on the territory of today's Sarkandaugava Park, where burials were held until the early 1930s.

Sarkandaugavas Cemetery is considered closed, meaning no new burials are allowed. Only reburials in existing relatives' graves are permitted, and only with urns. Coffin burials are not permitted at this cemetery.
