Pleskodales Cemetery in Riga

Pleskodales Cemetery is partially closed. No space is available for new burials. Burials are only permitted in the graves of previously buried relatives, using a coffin or urn.

This cemetery contains a military sector where, in 1944, participants of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 were buried. The sector covers an area of 540 square meters. On the northeastern side of the graves is an obelisk with the inscription: "MŪŽĪGA SLAVA VAROŅIEM KAS KRITUŠI KAUJĀS PAR MŪSU PADOMJU DZIMTENI. 1941–1945. ETERNAL GLORY TO THE HEROES WHO FELL IN BATTLES FOR OUR SOVIET MOTHERLAND." 1941–1945." There are 172 memorial plaques with names on the graves. In 2012, the site was restored using funds from the Russian Federation.
